Every American should read The Death of Osama bin Laden and the Future of Al Qaeda and the Lislamist Jihad A Primer, from the average citizen to the high-level policymaker. Col. Ruffini has done a wonderful job of breaking down this very complex and confusing subject and giving us a very clear picture in a short read (only about 15,000 words). Americans cannot afford to have our heads in the sand when our very national security is at stake. No, the War on Terror is not over just because Bin Laden is dead. Ruffini explains why and provides a much-needed challenge for all of us to get informed and be vigilant. He gives some great suggestions about how we as average citizens can help.
He also points out the lessons that we should be learning from our far-from-perfect War on Terror. I'd like to call it the Ruffini Doctrine No foreign occupations. No expensive nation-building. Just as in the successful Bin Laden operation--Operation Neptune Spear--American forces will acquire the target, arrive unannounced, eliminate the target and leave. "People will be killed. Things will be broken. The U.S. will not pick up the cleaning bill."
This is also a hopeful and encouraging book. With Operation Neptune Spear, America experienced a kind of success that could serve as a model for the future. Ruffini also suggests the possibility of an end in sight. Not only has the leader of global jihad been liquidated, but his ways may be going out of style. The recent largely non-violent uprisings in numerous Muslim nations suggest to him that young Muslims may be turning in a different direction to realize their aspirations for freedom.

Well, we finally got the man we've been after for so long. But what happens now? That question hit me right after the news of OBL's death. Then I got referred to this ebook by one of my friends and dove right in. What I've read was an eye opener. We still have so much to do to secure ourselves, and it all starts with us as individuals. There will be a replacement for OBL. There will be repercussions for this raid. There is always a need to be vigilance. I suggest this ebook to everyone who wants more information on what to do after this historic event.
As most people I don't really know much about the hidden events behind Osama Bin Laden's death. For instance I did not know anything at all about the now famous Team 6 of the Navy Seals. I had heard about the fact that Navy Seals are an elite unit of the Navy, but what I learned from this great book is much more detailed, with new info that I could not find elsewhere. I learned for example that the TEAM 6 of the Navy Seals is an Elite within an Elite. They are a special team that trains in complete secrecy, it is difficult to even take pictures of their base. This makes me proud of the great capabilities of the Navy, and yet I feel a little weary about such elite units having so much power.
These dilemmas and questions are explored in great depth in this profound and well researched book. Many different points are made and a lot of new information comes to light. I feel better and safer after learning more about the important and sometimes horrific events that play such an important role in the lives of all of us.
From the author of "When Terror Comes to Main St, A Citizen's Guide to Terror Awareness, Preparedness and Prevention", comes a unique, short and pithy primer. For the person who needs to understand quickly and succinctly what, who, where, how and why, this is the book to read.
Interesting Account.
Don't watch the evening news without this reference at your side. In four sections, Joe Ruffini provides the following an assessment of the immediate impact of Bin Laden's death; a summary of terrorism in the post-Bin Laden world; a taxonomy of terrorist profiles; and the requisites for vigilance by the average citizen. Extensively documented, Ruffini is clearly a master of this subject.
I had to check twice to make sure I read the same book that has been reviewed here.
First of all, I didn't find the promised comprehensive explanation about the team that killed OBL nor how Obama planned the mission. There was just a congratulation and an explanation of why it was an amazing thing to do.
Secondly, I thought it would include a revealing explanation about how people become terrorists or how a terrorist organization works. Even though it had a couple of pieces of information, and this is what bothered (or bored) me the most about this book, it was filled with simplistic affirmations / premises (i.e., the good guys vs. the bad guys, heroes vs. awful people who hate our amazing freedoms, etc.).
Maybe that simple binary view is the correct one, but I didn't need to read a book to get to it.
Also, there were many formatting and typing errors. So, again, did I read the same book as the rest?
